How to Repair a Dead Car Key

Dead Key Fob Batteries

Broken Key Loop
One of my MK5 keyfobs has snapped off the small key loop on top, where it connects to the keyfob. It's made of plastic or soft metal. I've drilled the hole and wet-sanded the area to make it more durable. However, I'm sure that's not helping.
I've also tried wrapping the broken portion of the ring with clear tape, but that does not seem to do any good. It's a shame, because I rely on the small split ring to keep my keys in place.
If the key fob case itself is broken It's usually possible to remove the case and replace the battery (assuming the battery isn't dead). Online kits are available however they are only a temporary solution. It is more efficient to have it repaired by a professional. You may also be able to locate the replacement case at the home improvement store or a locksmith. They are not likely to cost as much as an entirely new key fob.
